"As a result of my collaboration with the Alley Theatre, I have witnessed a student transformation. Kids that think they have nothing to say and are incapable of writing become playwrights that have a voice and an outlet for their creativity." — Brandy Barfield-Rood, Humble High School, Theatre Director
The Houston Young Playwrights Exchange (HYPE) is a program that showcases scripts written by Houston teenagers. Over 160 students submitted 10-minute plays this year. After an evaluation process and interviews, six scripts have been selected for HYPE 2013. These six playwrights will continue to work on their scripts throughout the summer under the guidance of experienced mentors. In August, the finished products will be presented in a weekend of staged readings.
Please join us to enjoy the work of these talented Houston-area teens:

Are you an aspiring playwright between 13 and 19 years old and live in or near Houston? Then you can be part of HYPE.
HYPE playwrights spend six weeks developing their scripts in an intensive workshop with Alley Education staff and guest artists. The workshop culminates with a weekend of staged readings on the Alley’s Neuhaus Stage. Selected playwrights will receive a $500 stipend for participating in the workshop!
Plays should be no longer than 10 minutes when read aloud, and require no more than 5 actors (parts can be doubled). Include a cover page with the title of the play and your name, address, e-mail and date of birth.
Also include a header or footer with the title and page numbers. Character, dialogue, and stage directions must be clearly distinguished.
