The Alley Theatre’s Education and Community Engagement Department (ECE) believes that the power of storytelling fuels the art of Theatre. Our programming serves to facilitate dialogue and the exchange of ideas among artists, students of all ages, educators and the wider Houston community about the stories the theatrical process investigates. This exploration engages diverse groups in the creation of Theatre, encouraging them to connect the art to their lives and the world around them. This engagement, in turn, cultivates young Theatre artists and audiences of the present and the future.

Whether we are fostering the growth of young playwrights through our new-play development programs, leading acting workshops for students in Houston’s public schools, or collaborating on projects with community partners, we are committed to our responsibility to enhance the educational component of American Theatre. Because we are a part of Houston’s Alley Theatre, we invite our community and audiences to join with us to continue this rewarding, reciprocal process.
