If you are interested in brining a small number of students to evening performances or to other productions, please consider participating in the School Night Program.
Determine which Alley Theatre plays are appropriate for your particular students and families before purchasing tickets. It is the responsibility of the school representative and principal to determine whether a play is appropriate for their particular group. Alley Theatre does not censor or edit the content of a play for the Student Matinees performances.
Choose a representative teacher, parent or staff member. This person will be responsible for communicating your school or organizations concerns to the Alley Theatre and for keeping other participating adults informed of program information and schedules.
Select the preferred show dates and the total number of tickets including students, teachers and adult chaperones. Please note the Hubbard Stage has 824 seats.
Complete the online application Student Matinee Application. The sooner you submit an application the better. Applications are accepted until all the student matinees are past or sold out.
Student Matinee Process
Once an application is approved, representatives need to coordinate with school administrators and organize the Student Matinee trip. Don't forget that we provide one complimentary chaperone ticket for every 20 purchased for student matinees.
The Alley Theatre Group Sales Department will send you a contract of your reservation request. To confirm your reservation, you must provide the appropriate signatures for the contract and return to the Group Sales Department within (5) business days of receipt. If the signed contract is not received in time, the reservation will be automatically cancelled without notice.
Submit payment for tickets on or before the payment deadlines. Student matinee tickets cost $12.50 per person.
We will only accept ONE single check, cash, or credit card (AMEX, Discover, MasterCard, and Visa). We do not accept Purchase Orders. There are NO refunds or exchanges. If payment is not made in time, the reservation will be automatically cancelled without notice.
The school representative must arrange transporatation to and from the Alley Theatre. Alley Theatre provides assistance with loading and unloading buses with a police officer to coordinate traffic. Parking information and other key details will be sent to school representative.
The dates and time for the Teacher Preparation Workshops are yet to be determined.
Approximately three weeks before the play opens, the Alley Theatre Education & Community Engagement Department will provide school contacts with a play-specific teacher guide and inquire about scheduling pre-and/or post-performance workshops.
Pre-performance workshops are highly recommended for schools and teachers new to the Alley Theatre. The purpose of the pre-performance workshops is to introduce students to the world of the play and enable them to begin thinking critically about theatre as an art form. Post-performance workshops are highly recommended for teachers who are studying the plays and integrating the performances into their curricula. The focus of the post-performance workshops is how to help students digest and connect to the production.
Pre-and post-performance workshops are facilitated by an Alley Theatre teaching artist at the school. The pre- and post-performance workshops are free to any Title I school with a paid reservation to an Alley Theatre production. Pre- and post-[erfprmance workshops for home school groups, private schools and non-Title I schools cost $25 per workshop with a paid reservation to an Alley Theatre production.
Student Matinee performances are not ticketed (actual tickets are not printed or distributed.)
Seating for the student matinees is determined by the Director of Education & Community Engagement to accommodate students with special needs, dismissal and latecomers. The time of arrival on the day of the performance and the size of various groups do affect the seating assignments.
Lobby doors at the Alley Theatre open at 9 a.m. The student matinee performances begin at 10 a.m.
