PROFESSIONAL THEATRE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The internship program provides college and graduate school level students the chance to participate in and observe a professional theatre environment. Interns work with members of our experienced and talented staff. Each intern is responsible for accomplishing goals set by his/her staff supervisor. Many departments at the Alley have project-based operations which provide interns opportunities to work independently and see their efforts come to fruition. Interns learn the Alley Theatre's history and mission, take (and in some cases lead) tours of the building, and gain a thorough understanding of current issues affecting the professional theatre. Interns attend Alley performances, invited dress rehearsals, opening night cast parties, full staff meetings, and department meetings. Interns also meet regularly as a group to share experiences and learn about other areas of the theatre. Interns are encouraged to meet with and interview artists and senior members of the staff. Applicants to the program must be at least 18 years old and have a minimum of 12 hours of college credit. Applicants are expected to demonstrate entry-level proficiency in their chosen areas and the desire to develop job skills through the diverse opportunities available at the Alley. Intern applicants should possess basic computer literacy, excellent teamwork and communication skills, initiative, and flexibility. Prospective interns should note that at this time, the Alley is unable to offer internships in design, acting or directing. However, a student aspiring to a career in design, acting, or directing can benefit greatly from the experience of one of the other Alley internships. The Alley is pleased to cooperate with institutions that offer academic credit for internships; the Education & Community Outreach Coordinator will manage paperwork and other necessary details to fulfill requirements. Internships are available in several administrative and/or production departments for the fall, spring, or summer terms. Interns may be accepted for 12 to 15 weeks during the fall or spring term and for 6 to 12 weeks during the summer term. By special arrangement, an intern may rotate through different Alley departments, but under no circumstances will an intern be employed for more than 12 consecutive months. TO APPLY
