Pay What You Can Saturday, April 11 2:30PM Buy Tickets
The Alley Theatre continues its efforts to make the theatre affordable to patrons
The Alley Theatre continues its efforts to make the theatre affordable to patrons.
Partnering with other social non-profit organizations, the Alley seeks to generate in-kind donations and reward patrons with Pay-What-You-Can tickets for the matinee performance. Pay-What-You-Can tickets are available in person, the day of the performance only and are limited to two tickets per person and cost a minimum of $10, but patrons are encouraged to Pay-What-They-Can. Purchase in person at the box office (615 Texas Ave.) on the day of the performance only. Cash or check only. Limited availability. Doors open at 10:00am.

The Pay What You Can partner for Mauritius will be the Houston READ Commission: “Leading and mobilizing a coalition of literacy providers and resources to improve the literacy landscape of Houston.” The Houston READ Commission will be accepting donations of children’s books, novels, or general remedial-level textbooks (math, science, etc.).
Houston Read Commission logoIn 1988, Mayor Kathy Whitmire established the Houston READ Commission to promote adult literacy efforts in Houston on a scale that could not be done by individual literacy providers. Since then, many literacy providers have taken on the responsibility of promoting themselves on their own. Though these efforts have worked for many organizations, there remain over one hundred literacy providers in Houston that do not have the resources to do so. The Houston READ Commission’s job, therefore, is to ensure that these small literacy agencies, as well as the larger ones, have not just a voice, but also an evident impact on Houston’s illiterate.
