WORKSHOPS
BRING AN ALLEY TEACHING ARTIST TO YOUR CLASSROOM.
The Alley Theatre Education and Community Engagement Department offers Workshops for elementary, middle, and high school students that are tailored to support your curricular and classroom needs. Alley workshops can support your Fine Arts curriculum or, by collaborating with you on workshop design, we can use theatre skills and techniques to enhance students’ understanding of history, literature, science or any other subject. Workshops can take place at the Alley Theatre or at your campus. In addition to classrooms at all grade levels, we can also lead workshops for after-school programs, churches, community centers or any group interested in learning about or through theatre. Workshops can be as short as an hour or as long as a full day. Pricing depends upon workshop length and the details of the project, but a typical one-hour workshop is $100.
Here are some of the workshops we could bring to your classroom. Select one of these or we can use them as a starting point for a whole new collaboration:
Acting Fundamentals Using the fundamental tools of an actor – imagination, body, voice, and teamwork – learn techniques to strengthen performance, communication, and cooperation skills.
Atoms, Molecules and Matter Using movement and acting exercises, explore how atoms combine into molecules and how molecules interact in the three states of matter. This approach taps into students’ kinesthetic and interpersonal intelligence to help them understand the building blocks of the universe.
Ensemble and Trust Building Through a series of dynamic theatre activities, learn how to deepen trust and support among your students to facilitate effective and creative group work.
Improvisation Learn to create unique characters, build an engaging story, and strengthen problem-solving skills through the interactive art of thinking on your feet.
Playwriting Explore the basic elements of writing a play, focusing on idea generating activities and the ten-minute play structure.
Staging the Electoral College Use character creation and improvisation techniques to explore early American History and the origins of our democratic government.
Story Dramatization Integrating literature and creative drama, stories are brought to life by exploring picture books, short stories, or novels through interactive theatre exercises. Lessons accommodate a variety of TEKS-aligned literacy skills and may be customized to reading curricula.
Theatre Games Learn an array of effective and enjoyable theatre games, exercises, and warm-ups to build communication, problem-solving, and acting skills across the curriculum.
