Summer Camps at the Alley Theatre Summer 2010
Young Performers Summer Studios, Workshops and Intersession are designed to engage students in multiple aspects of theatre while fostering their individual creativity and building skills that reach beyond the stage. In lessons led by Alley-trained teaching artists, the summer participants will be engage in playmaking, ensemble building, and a design process that will allow them to gain confidence and poise in expressing themselves and make new friends.

Session I June 7 – June 25, 2010 Showcase performances on Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 2:00PM Still accepting students entering grade 6-12 only (all other grades will go on a waiting list)
Studio I For students entering grades 4-12 9:00AM – 1:00PM Students enrolled in Studio I will create theatre that speaks with their own authentic voice. Lessons by experienced and caring adults will focus on team building and creative use of the body and the voice. With support and facilitation, students will develop their own characters and scenes through improvisation, movement work and creative writing. They will explore concepts for designing costumes, sound effects and props. Please note that Studio I’s final rehearsal is on Saturday, June 26 from 10:00AM – 2:00PM. Studio I culminates with showcases of the original works on our Neuhaus Stage. Tuition: $500
Session II July 12 – July 30, 2010 Showcase performances on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 11:00AM Please note this session is full. To be added to the waiting list please email Rochelles@alleytheatre.org.
Studio II For students entering grades 2-9 9:00AM – 1:00PM Students enrolled in Studio II will learn about theatre from all angles. Each studio group will turn classic stories, poems and literature into their own youthful contemporary stage adaptations. Students will be guided through the creative process by experienced and caring adults who teach acting, speech, collaborative problem-solving, staging, improvisation and storytelling. They will also explore concepts for designing costumes, sound effects and props. Studio II concludes with showcases of the adapted stories on our Neuhaus Stage. Tuition: $500
Early Drop-Off - New This Year! 8:00AM – 8:45AM For working Parents who need to be at work before 9AM. This social time encourages students to mingle with students of all ages. Tuition: $15 per week
Summer Workshops for Session I or II For students entering grades 4-9 2:00PM-5:15PM These specialty classes will focus on storytelling through music and dance from around the world. Students will be immersed in the traditions, folktales and stories from India, Mexico and West Africa. Each week will explore a different culture with a different Guest Artist with expertise in the performing arts of each country and will conclude with a sharing session on Fridays at 5:15PM. Tuition: $130 per week
Full Day Option for Session I or II 9:00AM – 5:15PM Only for students entering grades 4-9 Spend the full day at the Alley Theatre by combining Studio I or II with the Summer Workshop. A communal lunch will take place from 1:00PM-2:00PM to allow students to socialize and spend time relaxing while taking a break between the studio and workshop session. Please note that students must bring their own lunch. Tuition: $850.00
New this year! Summer Intersession June 28 – July 2, 2010 9:00AM – 1:00PM Tuition: $275 per week Sharing sessions on Friday, July 2 at 1:00PM
Shakespeare’s Fools & Clowns For students entering grades 2-6 Shakespeare was popular because his wit and humor appealed to all levels of society from peasant to Queen. Students will explore Shakespeare’s language, zany characters and scenes with fun skits and playful games.
Mime For students entering grades 4-8 This class is an introduction to the art form of Mime. Through a disciplined but playful approach, students ascend to a new level of physical awareness using the grammar of Mime. Students will focus on physical characters, object work, and ensemble as they journey beyond words to share silent narrative with an audience.
Accents & Dialects For students entering grades 6-12 From England to Italy and beyond, Shakespeare explored the known civilized world. In this class students will explore the words of Shakespeare through the accents and dialects of the time. Students will also be introduced to the phonetic alphabet while learning monologues and scenes designed to show off their new skills.
Fight choreography For students entering grades 9-12 Explore the world of stage illusion and stage combat! Learn terminology, fight notation, and safe basic techniques. This class builds a solid foundation of footwork, attacks, and defenses, and investigates movement and partnering techniques for the performer.
