The Winter’s Tale by Kaitlyn Fields
(High School Student Reviewer)
Under the wonderful direction of Alley Theatre’s Rob Melrose, The Winter’s Tale, a tragic play by William Shakespeare, was told through the young, imaginative eyes of Prince Mamillius, but with a country twang and set in Houston, Texas. I loved this show and how it was done. It was not how I expected it at all. The balance between comedy and tragedy was absolutely amazing and had me at the edge of my seat; I pretty much stayed crying or laughing throughout the whole performance. The actors relayed their emotions and character so well that I actually believe I could feel everything they were feeling. There were so many heart-wrenching moments that have really stuck with me. Everyone can take something away from this play; personally, this has stayed with me after watching it: we all need to be grateful for what we have because we never know when it will be gone. Overall, this was an amazing play and experience.
