Leslie Swackhamer returns to the Alley after directing Constellations last season, and the Alley All New readings of Jennifer Haley’s Sustainable Living and Selina Fillinger’s Cinched and Strapped. Swackhamer is Executive Director of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize, the oldest and largest international prize honoring women playwrights. Swackhamer frequently directs for Stages Repertory Theatre, most recently NSFW by Lucy Kirkwood. Marie Antoinette garnered the Houston Press Best Director Award. Houston productions include My Mañana Comes, Rabbit Hole, In the Next Room or the vibrator play, and Amy’s View. Swackhamer directs at many theatres across the country, including South Coast Rep, Madison Rep, Seattle Rep, The Empty Space, Florida Studio Theatre, Seattle Shakespeare, Cherry Lane, ACT Theatre, Cleveland Play House, American Stage, Cleveland Public, Intiman Theatre, Theatre Three (Dallas), Brave New Works, and The Playwrights Center. A founder of the Women Playwright’s Festival in Seattle, Swackhamer has held artistic leadership positions at Cleveland Play House and ACT Theatre (Seattle).
