El Zócalo Story Slam

    Overview

    El Zócalo Story Slam

featuring storytellers from across Houston who have participated in Alley Theatre's First Draft Personal Narrative Artist Residencies through the El Zócalo initiative.

To encourage authentic investigations, all residencies are being led by bilingual teams comprised of local Latinx and Alley Theatre Teaching Artists. Residency participants include: Students at Sharpstown High School, RYSS (Raul Yzaguirre School for Success), Austin High School, Heights High School; Creative Writers at Talento Bilingue de Houston; community members from MECA;  a youth group at Ripley House; community engineers at Baker Ripley; senior citizens at Harbach Ripley; and continuing education adults at Cleveland Ripley.

In total, this project will provide 11 eight-session residencies in the next six weeks. These rich story-telling sessions will give voice to our diverse community and from this vast pool of writers our team, together with input from our partners, will select participants from each group to present their stories.
