CONTENT ADVISORY policy and key

At Alley Theatre we believe that theatre should be an enriching, entertaining, and challenging experience. Our community brings diverse experiences into the theatre with them and we wish to acknowledge that sensitivity to subject matter varies from person to person.

To assist you as you explore our programming, we include basic content advisories using the system of initials below. For example, a production labeled LNV indicates that the production contains coarse language, nudity, and violence.

The comedy murder-mystery Clue contains violence, mild language, and some sexual innuendo.

LEND ME A SOPRANO: L, S, O

Language and Sexual Situations arise in the farcical world of opera divas, as well as high stakes mishaps surrounding an accidental overdose misconstrued as a suicide - which doesn't turn out to be quite as deadly as everyone originally thought...

SEASCAPE: S, V

Seascape contains brief discussions of Sexual Situations and a short instance of Violence, as well as conversations about suicide and infidelity, as two couples discuss the nature of long-term relationships and of life. 

WHAT-A-CHRISTMAS!: L, S, O

The warm-hearted comedy What-a-Christmas! contains some Language, a brief reference to a Sexual Situation, and a spirit who smokes marijuana as Margot grapples with grief and death on one unusual, meaningful and ultimately life-affirming Christmas Eve.

CAMBODIAN ROCK BAND: L, V, O

Cambodian Rock Band contains Violence, Language, and descriptions and depictions of genocide in telling the story of a father who survived the Khmer Rouge regime and his daughter, who is investigating the past. 

COWBOY BOB: L, V, O

This edgy and adult new musical contains Language, Violence, gunshots, death, and grief as it tells the tale of an unusual outlaw.

THE ODYSSEY: V, S

This ancient classic contains Violence and Sexual Situations in depicting the epic misadventures of Odysseus as he spends ten years trying to return home from war. 

SHERLOCK HOLMES AND THE CASE OF THE JERSEY LILY: V

This comedic mystery contains Violence, in keeping with its genre and source material. 

TORERA: V, L

Torera contains Violence in depicting bullfighting as well as some Language as it tells a story of strong-willed people who live to be in the ring. 

THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS

A classic of the Commedia delle'arte genre, this play contains adventurous sword fighting and love interests.
