Donor Spotlight: Kathleen and Scotty Reynolds
How did you get involved with the Alley, and what inspired you to become supporters?
When we started dating, we discovered that we both loved theater, and attending Alley shows quickly became a favorite date night. We became season subscribers, learned about SCENE and started meeting other young theater lovers.
You both chaired our most successful Opening Act Party yet. What about supporting this fundraising gala was the most fun and rewarding?
Many of our friends grew up going to the Alley but hadn't been active attendees in years--being able to reintroduce them to the Alley was exciting. Hurricane Harvey hit days before the Opening Act Party, devastating the theater and so many other parts of Houston. We were concerned our friends and Alley supporters wouldn't be up for celebrating that quickly, but we were overwhelmed by the support and generosity people showed the Alley that night. The Alley staff was incredible--the team rallied and completely re-planned the party after they were also displaced by the storm.
As SCENE steering committee members, what do you most enjoy about taking on a more specific role of involvement among the Alley’s young supporters?
We've been part of many young professional groups, but we believe SCENE is unique in its programming by truly connecting younger arts patrons with the Alley through post-show events and networking opportunities (not to mention the occasional star encounter at SCENE events!)
In your experience as supporters and supporters and season subscribers, how does the Alley stand out in a strong theatre community?
We love seeing our favorite resident company actors in a variety of roles each season and are always amazed by their versatility. The actors are what really set the Alley apart from Houston's other strong arts organizations. We also appreciate the incredible diversity of plays each season--from slapstick comedies to challenging dramas and everything in between.
