Alley Theatre, one of America’s leading nonprofit theatres, is a nationally recognized performing arts company led by Artistic Director Rob Melrose and Managing Director Dean R. Gladden. The Alley is committed to developing and producing theatre that is as diverse as the Houston community.

  • Founded in 1947, Alley Theatre is one of the oldest regional theatres in the United States and is home to the only full-time, year-round, salaried Resident Acting Company in the country.
  • More than 175,000 people attend Alley performances each season.
  • Our two-stage facility includes the 774-seat Hubbard Theatre and the 296-seat Neuhaus Theatre, allowing for both large-scale and intimate productions.
  • Through education and community programs, the Alley reaches over 20,000 students and teachers annually.
  • The Alley has produced world premieres by some of America’s most celebrated playwrights, including Horton Foote, Edward Albee, Tennessee Williams, Thornton Wilder, Liz Duffy Adams, Anna Ziegler and Rajiv Joseph.
  • The Alley is a proud Tony Award® recipient for Outstanding Regional Theatre, a national honor recognizing artistic excellence.
  • The theatre underwent a $46.5 million renovation completed in 2015, making it one of the most technically advanced theatre facilities in the country.
  • Alley’s world premiere productions have gone on to have incredible lives, reaching Broadway, Off-Broadway, national and international stages.
