Alley Articulated Updates: Expanding Our Reach Through Arts and Medicine

Alley Theatre’s Alley Articulated program continues to break new ground, forging deeper connections with Houston’s business and medical communities. We’re excited to announce our growing partnership with the Texas Medical Center, where the power of the arts is being harnessed to enhance both patient care and healthcare provider well-being.

Already in 2024/2025, we have begun working with Baylor College of Medicine and Houston Methodist Hospital. At Baylor, we recently led a masterclass where second year medical students learned how the actor’s toolbox—empathy, active listening, and presence—can improve bedside manner and patient interaction.

Houston Methodist Hospital is pioneering the Arts in Medicine movement, and we are thrilled to collaborate with them. Together, we are exploring how the arts can not only support healing but also invigorate healthcare providers. As part of this initiative, we hosted an acting workshop for 50 leading physicians, followed by a performance of And Then There Were None. Additionally, we conducted a virtual playwriting lesson with 63 participants as part of their staff engagement series to foster creativity and team building. New opportunities include producing content for Methodist’s internal TV network, showcasing how acting techniques can aid in recovery and well-being, while also highlighting the Alley as a cultural gem in Houston.

In other exciting news, we are proud to welcome Julia Krohn as our lead facilitator. Julia’s deep connection to the Alley runs in the family—her father, Charles Krohn, was a member of our resident acting company. Having performed at the Alley since childhood and taught across the country, Julia brings a wealth of experience and passion to her new role. We’re excited to explore fresh opportunities under her leadership as we continue evolving Alley Articulated, delivering impactful community engagement through theatre.
