Meet our Summer Interns
Every summer, Alley Theatre provides internships for students across our departments, including theatre production, arts administration, and non-profit marketing and management. Meet the third set of this year’s incredible interns: Anna, Lulani, Meredith, Karis, Federico, and Meredith.
Anna Parker, Literary Intern
University: Yale University, Class of 2029

Which play from the 2026-27 season excites you most and why?
I am most excited about the world premiere of Gloria Majule’s Uhuru. I was laughing aloud just reading it at my desk, and I can’t wait to see how the Alley’s incredible company brings it to life!
What is your favorite memory at the Alley?
Workshopping my latest one-act play with my fellow interns! It was so inspiring to brainstorm about everything from lighting to marketing to directorial choices with this diverse, talented group of theater makers.

Meredith Kinzel, Operations Intern

What are you most looking forward to in your summer with the Alley?
I’m really looking forward to making connections with the wonderful community here and growing my knowledge of how a professional theatre operates. I’ve already learned so much within the first weeks of being here and I cannot wait to continue my journey!
What is your favorite memory at the Alley?
My favorite memory at the Alley was seeing Sense and Sensibility in the 2021-2022 season. It was the first production I saw at the Alley, aside from A Christmas Carol when I was young (but I don’t really remember it). I thought the show was beautifully done, and it exposed me to the larger theatre scene in Houston.
Federico Gonzalez, Play Makers Intern

What is your favorite part of working in theatre?
Theatre grants me a creative outlet to express my love for storytelling. Being able to convey a character’s thoughts and emotions while immersing audiences in a world beyond their everyday lives is powerful and rewarding.
What does your typical day at the Alley look like?
We begin our morning with acting and storytelling, then move on to movement activities before heading to lunch. After lunch, the playmakers visit the Maker’s Space, where they express their creativity by making props and costume pieces. Finally, we return to our homeroom, where we end the day.
Karis Klammer, Play Makers Intern

What are you most looking forward to in your summer with the Alley?
I’m most excited to learn about how to put the artistry in teaching artistry! I’m excited to learn the creative process of current professionals in the hopes of continuing to develop one of my own.
What does your typical day at the Alley look like?
A typical day always keeps me on my toes! We’re working with young students on devising pieces based on a book or visual images, so truly every day is different. That’s what is so exciting about it, everyday brings new ideas and creative energies. I feel in my element working at the Alley and am so grateful for the constant camp chaos!

What is your favorite part of working in theatre?
The community aspect is what brings me back to theatre every time! Getting to collaborate with different people to bring so many parts together creative is such a rewarding experience.
What are you most looking forward to in your summer with the Alley?
I’m excited to continuously learn how our teaching artists apply theatre to social and creative skills we use everyday
Lulani Maya, Play Makers Intern

What is your favorite part of working in theatre?
My favorite part of working in the theatre industry is how passionate everyone is! I love hearing people’s “whys” and seeing them put their heart into what they do. Everyone is so supportive with one another.
What does your typical day at the Alley look like?
My days can vary from week to week, as in the ECE department every few weeks the interns switch to different age groups! My days are spent in Play Makers camp, getting to learn under the Alley teaching artists and working with young artists of all ages! In Play Makers, we spend time working on devising tableaus based off story books, it’s amazing seeing how creative everyone is!
