This February, Alley Theatre is proud to celebrate Black History Month 2025 with a powerful lineup of events honoring Black communities and creatives. It’s a time to amplify Black artists’ voices, foster meaningful connections, and ignite essential conversations about representation in the arts.

Join us throughout the month for dynamic experiences that showcase Black artistry, explore cultural heritage, and inspire future generations. More than just a reflection on the past, this celebration is a bold commitment to uplifting and championing Black creatives—today and beyond.

Stay connected! Follow Alley Theatre on Facebook and Instagram every Saturday in February for exclusive Black History Month content and activities. Here’s what’s in store.

Get to Know Our Resident Artists: Resident Acting Company members David Rainey and Michelle Elaine discuss Black representation in theatre, while Resident Artist Amber Gray shares her journey as a Black woman in creative leadership.

Honor Black Minds & Creatives: Alley Theatre’s Artistic team curates a list of influential works by Black writers, playwrights, and artists, showcasing Black excellence in literature and theatre.

Investing in Black Futures: In partnership with Sankofa Collective and Freedmen’s Town Museums, aspiring performers will participate in group choreography sessions led by a professional choreographer and mock auditions offering industry insights. The experience provides a unique opportunity to learn from seasoned artists, build confidence, and explore the legacy of Black theatre. By fostering young talent, we’re investing in a future where Black voices and stories continue to thrive.

Let’s Read Together: Alley Theatre’s NEA Big Read is a city-wide exploration of Their Eyes Were Watching God, the iconic 1937 novel by Zora Neale Hurston. Throughout February and March, the Alley will collaborate with partners across Houston to host events that amplify Black voices and experiences through literature, art, and community dialogue. Check out Schedule of Events here.
