With 31 years and counting, Summer Chills has become an important tradition for the Alley and Houston theatregoers. Resident Acting Company member Chris Hutchison has been in 10 Summer Chills productions and is currently playing Jason Rudd in Agatha Christie’s The Mirror Crack’d. Here he reflects on the many years of Alley Theatre’s Summer Chills and his significant part of it.

What was your favorite summer chills?

My first one was special: Death on the Nile. They are all fun to do, but that first experience of the company all coming together was a great feeling.

How has Summer Chills changed and grown over the years?

Institutionally, it started humbly. Two plays running a few weeks each on the same set and minimal design. Now, it is a pretty big spectacle, and we pull out all the stops.

Why do audiences continue to come back year after year?

People love a whodunit, what can I say? I think we deliver good ones after all these years of putting them together.

This year’s Summer Chills runs for one more week! Don’t miss Chris Hutchison and other Resident Acting Company members in one of the Alley’s longest running traditions.
