FRAGILE DREAMS, FADED REALITIES

February 21 – March 16

HUBBARD THEATRE

By Tennessee Williams
Directed by Rob Melrose

Williams’ American classic follows a family caught by dreams and delusion. Amanda, a faded Southern belle, yearns for a better life for her children. Her daughter Laura, however, would rather spend time alone with her collection of delicate glass animals, while her restless son, Tom, longs to escape the monotony of his current life. This memory play asks us to explore the delicate nature of human connections.

Behind the Music of Seared

When I first began discussing Seared with director Brandon Weinbrenner, the idea of jazz emerged almost immediately. It wasn’t a forced concept—it was an instinct, a gut reaction to the rhythms, tensions, and improvisations that define both a high-stakes kitchen and the world of jazz.Continue reading

The Integration of Alley Theatre

In 1949, during the first season at its Berry Avenue location, Alley Theatre took a quiet but significant step toward integration. Eight women from The Links, a prominent Black women’s organization, approached founder Nina Vance with a bold request—to purchase the entire house for a single performance, ensuring a space for Black audiences in an era of strict segregation. Vance agreed, marking a pivotal moment in the theatre’s history. Continue reading
